“Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”

Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”

(Luke 8.49-50; Matt 9.18-26; Mark 5.21-43)

Pay attention and let this simple message seep into your soul. Jairus was a Jewish synagogue ruler. He was a leader steeped in the culture of religion, kind of like most church-goers today. Rules, rituals, routine observances… programs, potlucks, youth pastors.

You get the idea and that’s not all bad; I love a good carb-filled spread as much as any Sunday-morning collection plate passer.

Jairus’ 12-year-old daughter was in real trouble, as in dying. As in Jesus got interrupted on his way to help her and the family, subsequently… she died.

Many MANY times God has our blessing on the way.
He is not Amazon. There is no order tracking.
Stay faithful, thankful, and diligent with your responsibilities.
Don’t get too frustrated and give up.
It will come.

One of the people from his household came up to Jairus, Jesus and the others around and essentially said, “You’re too late. She’s gone. Stop bothering Pastor GEEZus. It’s pointless, plus he’s too busy. Have you seen how many Instagram followers he has?!”

Sounds noble… and awfully religious.

Remember, Jesus didn’t come to “set people straight”; he came to change the entire game.

Throughout all the witness reports and first-hand documentation of the life and behavior of Jesus that I’ve seen, a major characteristic of his actions on earth were to intervene strongly when ill-intentioned hearts attempted to lead people astray. He always acted swiftly, counter-acting poisonous or misleading messages… even if it was only a witty verbal slap in the mouth.

He hears the thinking of Jairus’ representative start to infect the people but before it could turn to poison and get into their minds & spirits Jesus nonchalantly says, “Relax. I’m here now. Stiffen up, stop shaking like a bowl of Jello freaking out all over yourself. Just believe…”

You no longer have to stay bound by the limitations, small thinking, nor the cynicism that accompanies being faithful to a religious model. Jesus is here. He’s waiting for you to let go of that burden, reach your hand out and just believe.

I don’t think you get it yet… he did not say “believe and…
• behave
• come to church every Sunday
• don’t have too much fun
• be quiet
• act right
• blah blah blah… pick your favorite one”

REMEMBER the lead-off scripture at the top:

Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”

1. Don’t be afraid
The first thing Jesus addressed was Jairus’ fear (He always gives us what we need, as an individual)

2. Just believe
If this is hard for you to accept, I understand and fully empathize with you. I spent years bound by the deep damage of religion spread by the ignorant or misguided. Religion may have a strangle hold on your spirit but you can break it. Feel free to contact me directly if you need help with that – Adam AT instigationnation DOT com)

Pray –

Lord Jesus, what do you have to say to me? I want to hear from you. I want to escape the hold of religion and destructive thinking toward you. Help me understand the simplicity of believing. I want to just believe. Show me, Lord. I know this is your will, thank you!
