They say the Devil’s in the details

Well, I don’t know about that, but I do know he is in the denominations of the Christian Church

Let me start by defining exactly what I mean by that, here’s a screenshot of the google result from searching “denomination definition”

Okay, can you see it? That word CULT? That’s a synonym!
Bet ya you never knew that, did ya??
In case you were wondering, I left definition #2 in there for your learning pleasure, no charge
My story with denominations:
Grew up around the Catholics, Baptists and Non-denominationals as the big ones I experienced. For clarity, I did not “Grow up Catholic” like so many of us have been programmed to say, okay?
Unless YOU choose with a competent mind, it’s not really yours.
Can you see why I’m so twisted now? It’s a shock I’m not sitting in a corner, hugging my knees to my chest, & rocking back and forth
Other major denominations include Lutheran, Methodist, Assemblies of God, Church of Christ, Church of God, and on it goes
There are ENDLESS denominations it seems (Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, etc are religions or faiths and each has subdivided sects within them called denominations)
Everywhere you go you see a different one
If you’re going to get offended, just go now, cuz I’m going to let it rip straight at ya, as always (Instigators wouldn’t have it any other way).

NO ONE IS SAFE once I get going… you ready? C’mon …

FOR CLARITY: I’m ONLY referring to the institutions here, not particular individuals so don’t get your undies in a bunch

I’ll start with my childhood experience

Catholics … Ahh, Catholicism. Catholics think they are God, or at least His right hand committee, and they expect you and me to recognize that

See if any of these examples are familiar –

  • Confess your bad ways to me “my child”
  • If the Pope says it, it’s true
  • Kiss my ring child
  • Pray to Mary and the Saints for salvation
  • and my all-time fav… Bend over little boy, you’re going to feel a little pressure

Okay, I want to make something clear. I do not take those tragedies as light as my questionable sense of humor would suggest.

I think it’s a disgusting abomination, worthy of nothing less than castration on Facebook LIVE followed by a public burning at the stake during the Super Bowl Halftime Show so the whole world can celebrate at once. BUT! if God hasn’t delivered their due yet, I’ll keep writing satire… for now

Besides THAT, their value system is based around being religious, observing traditions and putting people through ritualistic events in order to gain God’s favor

All of that is contrary to what Jesus taught

Not sure if that’s true, just talk with one, you’ll hear language like this:

“Are you religious?”

“I’m Catholic but I’m not religious. I mean, I don’t go to church or anything. I probably should but I gotta get my shit together first or I’ll burst into flames going in there.”

“I’m not Christian; I’m Catholic”

W.T.F. does THAT even mean??

I won’t even mention the worship of that cat at the Vatican who has the tears of little boys stored safely in his nightstand… I don’t want death threats

My point?

The people like me that experienced the psychological, emotional and for some (not me, I promise) even physical abuse are grown adults and they’re all messed up about God, faith and what holiness really means

It’s not their fault

If you are one of them, IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT

As a mentor said to me, “It may not be your fault but you’re responsible for changing it.”

Instigation Nation is here BIG TIME for those people… maybe you’re one of them

Welcome! (if I haven’t pissed you off too badly 😉

Next is one of my all-time favorites to pick on, I mean, it’s soooo easy

Baptists think they are the keepers of the 10 COMMANDMENTS, RAWRRRRR!!!!

And they also think they got selected to run the catering portion of Heaven and it’s for ETERNITY

I mean, have you seen how they eat?

Yikes, bro. Type 2 Diabetes is real, guys. Take it easy at those eatings. Sorry, I meant those MEETINGS.

Another signifying trait with the Baptists is the sick obsession with feeling bad about themselves

The more they can talk to each other about what disgusting dirtbags they are and how much they deserve nothing but Hell the more comfortable they are

Start discussing abundance, delivery, joy, happiness, fulfillment, and the like and watch them start squirming (btw, that’s all the stuff Jesus has planned for you)

Then they’ll accuse you of following a “false gospel” or you’re a “mystic” or some other ridiculous label like “new ager” or “heretic” or “false teacher” (which is probably what they’ll say about me if they ever see this post, or anything I produce for that matter)

Being a Baptist, especially of the Southern flavor (and I LOVE the south), is nearly entirely focused on behavior, law, legalism, rules, dos, don’ts, outward appearance, following traditions, FACADE, yep, I said it… fake attitudes and plastic smiles next to the plastic fork n’ spoon at the potluck, everywhere

Very religious

That is religion and that is what Instigation Nation is here to help you escape

The problem with religion is that it kills

It kills neighbors, other religions, happiness, joy, and especially it kills any shot whatsoever of having an authentic, intimate relationship with the God that came to do away with the Law

I’m not advocating anarchy here or “doing whatever feels good” (that’s a recipe for disaster, as any mature adult knows) and I’ll cover more on that later

< Quick Story >

I was once denied a chance to take my only son at the time to a campout on a lake in August because I was wearing shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt… Huh? Yep, that’s right, straight from the bowels of hell I was

The explanation was “they won’t allow it, BUT you can dress the way they want you to and join us!”

No, thanks

That’s cool man, glad I found out now before I opened my heart to any of those turds

I will not allow my kid to be exposed to this satanic influence (I said that)

We left and had a private camping adventure in our backyard and ate a lot of junk food, heaven forbid

Anyway, steer clear of those guys and again, if you come from that, we understand

On to the next –

Even though the non-denominational churches are a denomination in and of themselves, they vary so widely and teach so broadly that it’s tough for my satirical humor to work or be effective with them, so I’ll pass

What I can say is that there are some really awesome churches out there but they’re hard to find

We’re going to be posting some Instigation Nation-approved churches for you to utilize as resources

My recommendation is staying out of any church that isn’t living out the example of Jesus

It’s better to eat crumbs alone than a feast with fools

Plus, the whole point of this post is to awaken you to the fact that denominations are the devil’s creation

I’m not kidding about that

I believe they are evil

Pay attention here, I do NOT believe that the people (not necessarily anyway, but there are some for sure).

As a matter of fact, I believe most of them are just like you and me, I really do

I absolutely believe that the vast majority of them are duped, hoodwinked, bamboozled, and other descriptions from Polar Express

Denominations DIVIDE. PERIOD.

Denominations are destructive to individuals finding hope and salvation in God.

They absolutely hinder people coming to God because the people see and feel the infighting, the gossip, the judgment, the cliquey divisions within the church itself and it’s disgusting.

Nobody wants to be a part of that crap, if they did they’d just wait for the holidays to come around when their whole family gets together

I’ll stand by that until my death or God shows me otherwise because I believe He has shown me this in the first place

Denominations are NOT of God’s plan because by definition they are… DIVISIONS. And all Jesus wants is His Church (which is all believers in Him) united as one – exactly the way He and the Father and the Spirit are One

I mean, we are still created in God’s image, right? He is our model, right?

Denominations keep people fighting who ought to be brother and sister

Then they take those people and have them aim their proverbial guns on other faiths rather than focusing effort on the creation of solidifying unity, understanding one another, lifting and propelling each other forward

Most people who would call themselves “Christians” are usually talking about what they’re against instead of what they’re for

The focus is lack, fear, worry

Then if you’re not part of their special little corner of “the only way to get to Heaven” (as if they themselves are the door) they stand against you in opposition, rather than seeking common ground

In fairness, not all denominational folks do this and plenty of non-denoms do it too

Notice how denom is short for denomination?

Also notice how denom is demon slightly reorganized? No coincidence folks.

Again, be NON-demon… I mean…. okay, you get it

It follows in direct correlation to the more “religious” the denomination is, the more they finger-point you straight to hell by condescendingly slapping you with bible verses

I always found that ironic… but I’ll leave that one alone for now

Have you ever heard denominational hard-cores talk about Muslims, Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, you name it?

Man, the fiery fury that comes from their heart is scary

Aint no way Jesus is in there, no. way.

And yes, I am partial to picking on Baptists, and that’s because of the baggage I’m STILL trying to get rid of that they put on me and countless others

The tricky part for us INstigators is that we probably really care about some of the individuals we met or grew to love in those settings

I know, for me, the men themselves that I know (and their families), I care for deeply and I love. I would do anything in my power to help them if I was called on for them

The problem for me is some of the straight nonsense they’ve fallen prey to and put on the people that listen to them

God doesn’t require you to follow some guideline or ritual or schedule

They don’t need you to be a bible expert

You do not need to be able to spout off all the bible verses you’ve memorized to appear holy

That’s the crap Pharisees are about

Let me put it like this:

I became a Jesus-lover in June 1999

I wasn’t too bad of a kid at that point BUT I had broken EVERY SINGLE ONE of the 10 Commandments.

Have you read those things, pretty strict, especially the way Jesus describes them in His teachings to His followers

Like, He said regarding the one about murder, if you’ve looked at someone with even hate in your heart, you’ve committed murder

That’s because often times we only don’t do something because we lack the opportunity or know we’ll get caught, so we’d murder if we could (think bosses, spouses, in-laws, drivers who cut us off… U.S. presidents, etc)

I found I couldn’t disagree with that rationale

So, that was me at 20

Check this out, it gets WAY better

In the fall of 2006 (6 years of being a Jesus follower) I hit rock bottom in my life, because I wasn’t following Him very much

Here’s a snapshot of ME in October 2006:

  • Had been unfaithful to my wife multiple times
  • Separated from her
  • (The divorce finalized on February 14, 2007, yep, Valentine’s Day)
  • Rarely saw my only son
  • New daughter born in September but I didn’t visit
  • 3 1/2 years into prescription pain pills
  • Using IV needles to shoot up whatever I could find
  • One overdose that nearly killed me, almost
  • Physically sick most of the time from the drugs
  • Partially homeless, living out of my car
  • Had a vehicle repossessed
  • In major debt
  • 1 friend left that would take my call, kinda like Jesus 😉
  • All other church “friends” were gone
  • I was stealing stuff to get money (and I was a REGISTERED NURSE!)
  • Got another woman pregnant and influenced/paid for an abortion
  • (same month my daughter was born)
  • Totally depressed
  • Totally broke in every way
  • ZERO motivation for life or anything good
  • Lost
  • Cold
  • Dark

I was a straight loser.

You know what’s really crazy?

THAT was the place I was living in at the moment Jesus came to me and said,

“Okay, are you done? I miss you. You miss me. If you continue this I’m going to let you die this time. What’s your move?”

Look, it wasn’t a physical visit, right.

It was deep in my heart, an impression I guess

But to this day, nearly 12 years later, it’s the way I remember it

My point:

I was already what some call a Christian when I chose to begin going down that path in 2003 and yet there HE was again, Jesus, that is

He didn’t ask me if I was all cleaned up

He didn’t ask if I had ever missed church

He didn’t ask if I had tattoos, drank beer, said hell, dammit, shit, bitch or fuck

Nope, none of it

He simply invited me back – we always have a choice with God

And for me (and many others), THANK GOD, I said yes

Religion demands; God offers

What you need to know today is that Jesus doesn’t do cliques

And that’s exactly what denominations are. I believe, like cliques, they are founded on arrogance, desire for control and other human greed-related agendas

They’re cliques with agendas other than simply leading people to a relationship with their Creator

They’re social societies geared to get you in line with their particular “statement of belief”

My statement of belief is this:  Jesus and his law, his love & grace

Does that mean I go wild? Nope. He’s not my get-out-of-jail-free card

That would be a perversion of the relationship

The funny thing is, the more I seek knowing HIM (prayer, study & action) the better my “behavior” gets

So, there it is for now

I never tell anyone what to think

Hopefully today you’ve gained some useful insight to consider for yourself

I’m simply stating what I believe with my whole heart to be true and that is that denominations are an idea birthed by the #1 enemy of God and at best they’re distractions to the person of Jesus and your chance at an unhindered relationship with Him

I’ll end with the words of one of the greatest Jesus-lovers ever

His name was Paul (side-note: his job before being the Director of Marketing for Jesus was Chief Murderer of Anyone Following Jesus… for real)

The Apostle Paul HATED Jesus… but his heart was changed.

While addressing a very spiritually-young and frankly, messed up group of people (all kinds of insest and other stuff was going on) who he was helping grow in their relationship with God, he said the following:

I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”;another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?

Today he would’ve asked did the Pope die for you? Did Mr. Baptist die for you? Did Mr. Methodist die for you? And on and on

That’s the clearest plea against dividing God’s people and yet someone out there is saying I’m “taking it out of context”

And why wouldn’t they say that… they have to protect their clique

But you no longer have to buy that garbage

***Here are some key takeaways***

  • Jesus NEVER taught ANYTHING remotely close to this idea of dividing His people

And if Jesus not endorsing it isn’t enough, here you go…

  • Paul explicitly spoke against it in context
  • UNITY is what Jesus exemplified regarding this topic
  • The google machine calls denominations “cults”
  • Just consider your own experience as related to this issue

THE FINISH! (Great job hangin in there… I know I can test human limits;)

The night before Jesus was murdered, He prayed a simple loving prayer

(Remember, He knew what was coming and that makes this all the more special and important too because He could’ve prayed anything but He chose this)

Here it is and I’ll let it finish this post, love you! –

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one — I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”

The Jesus I Know… Holding a Founder of a Denomination.

That’s why he’s God and I’m not. I’m not that loving, yet.
